Fugitive 'American Idol' Twin Surrenders To Police
The Brittenum twins from "American Idol" have finally been reunited — albeit in jail, in neighboring states. After being on the lam for a week, Derrell Brittenum, 28, turned himself in to Georgia authorities late Friday and spent the weekend in
a Rockdale County, Georgia cell.
Meanwhile, his smooth-singing twin, Terrell — who has been in the Shelby County, Tennessee jail since January 10 — changed his mind late Friday and waived extradition to Georgia on theft charges related to the alleged purchase of a car using false identification (see " 'American Idol' Twins Are In Double Trouble With The Law"). An attorney for Terrell Brittenum told Memphis' Commercial-Appeal that his client originally asked for a hearing Monday (January 23) to challenge the extradition to Georgia in the case, but then reconsidered.
The Brittenums had outstanding criminal warrants when their "American Idol" audition aired last week. Both had been charged in Rockdale County, Georgia with forgery, theft by deception and financial identity fraud over the purchase of a 2005 Dodge Magnum last June, which they allegedly made using another man's identity.
